Artificial Insemination & Embryo Transfer

Thoroughbred Reproductive Services

We offer a fully comprehensive Thoroughbred breeding service to both stud farms and individual horse owners. This includes preparation for cover at home or for walk-ins, post cover treatments, pregnancy scans, twin management, infertility investigation, care of the pregnant mare, care at and around foaling. Our highly experienced team of dedicated reproduction vets, also offer expertise in foetal sexing scanning, stallion management and foal care. Please contact us for further information and advice.

Foal Care

Our stud vet team offer care at and around foaling, as well as assistance with problem foalings. We offer routine newborn foal checks and IgG blood testing. We have significant experience in dealing with common foal conditions such as flexural limb deformities, hernias, turned in eyelids, low immunity etc. Our vets offer expertise in dealing with dummy foals and fostering of orphaned foals.

Lameness & Rehabilitation

Our clinical expertise, wealth of experience, our logical approach and the best in industry equipment, allow us to offer a unique lameness service. Our vets undergo regular specialist training to ensure we are up-to-date with the most advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques. We offer fully mobile wireless x-ray imaging, ultrasound scanning and therapeutic shockwave. We strive to develop a working relationship with your farrier, therapist, saddle fitter etc, for the best outcome for your horse.

Poor Performance & Sports Horse Medicine

Poor performance can be a challenging problem for owners, trainers and vets. At Page & Gunstone Equine Vets, we have a special interest in Poor Performance Investigation and Sports Horse Medicine. With our multidisciplinary approach we are able to get to the bottom of your horses lowered performance levels. We offer fully mobile investigations of lameness, back problems, stomach ulcers, wind problems etc. Keep an eye on our Offers page for our regular stomach scoping offers.

Castrations & Surgery

We offer castration of colts and stallions, both standing and under general anaesthesic. We are very clear and honest about our pricing and we offer castration packages so that you know what it's going to cost beforehand. Keep an eye on our Offers page for our regular castration offers.

We offer a wide range of standing surgical procedures including laser surgery for the treatment of sarcoids and melanomas, eye surgery, sinus surgery, dental extractions and surgery for conditions of the mare reproductive tract.

Wound management forms a core part of our work, where we offer emergency and elective surgical procedures, as well as bespoke bandaging solutions for wounds in tricky locations.

Vettings

We want to ensure that you have the best start possible with your new horse. Our highly experienced team of dedicated equine vets regularly perform both 2 and 5 stage pre-purchase examinations, across all disciplines, from the pleasure horse to the high level competition horse. We also offer pre-purchase radiography, endoscopy of the upper respiratory tract and routine blood tests.

Exports

Our vets hold the Official Veterinarian (OV) qualifications to carry out equine exports from the UK, to any country worldwide. We are able to undertake all required pre-export testing and certification, to ensure smooth and efficient movement of your horse. Our experienced team work closely with all major shipping companies.

Routine & Advanced Dentistry

Our vets have advanced dentistry training and the best in industry equine dental equipment. We offer routine dental care, wolf teeth removal, removal of damaged teeth, and diastema management. We have a visiting dental consultant vet, Alan Ritchie, for best management of more complex cases.

General Practice & Zone Visits

As an independent practice, we are able to offer a personalised service to our clients. We provide our own out of hours emergency service for registered clients, and a direct telephone line to our vets. Our regular working hours are 8.30am - 5.30pm Monday to Friday, emergency cover 24:7, 365 days of the year.

We offer £10 zone visit days, for routine procedures, on designated days of the month. These cover the Wrexham, Chester and Wirral areas. Please contact us for more information.
